Koshish: Pre-school for Disabled Children 

Since children with disabilities are not equipped with school readiness skills, it becomes very difficult for them to get integrated into regular schools.  Arushi has started a pre-school Koshish to focus on children below the age of 5 so that they can be enrolled into regular schools at the earliest and their education can be monitored and facilitated.

The school has experts to deal with special needs of children with visual, hearing, and physical impairment. Needs of Children with Cerebral palsy, learning difficulties and other developmental disabilities are also being addressed. The school has facility for physiotherapy for the physically impaired, early language training/audio verbal therapy for the hearing/ speech impaired, Braille, orientation and mobility for the visually impaired and necessary inputs for children with developmental disorders, autism, and difficulties in learning. 

Panaah: Home for the Mentally Retarded

Arushi with the support of Department of Social Justice, Government of Madhya Pradesh has started Panaah is a home for the mentally retarded. The main objective is to take care of them, to provide shelter, create opportunities for their development, improve work skills, provide vocational training, develop work habits and right attitude towards work. Regular medical checkups in consultation with physician, psychiatrist, therapists and other professional are undertaken.

Other capacity-building programs include:

  • Our computer training centre with Internet facility is equipped with text-to-speech screen reading software to provide computer access to the visually impaired. The centre has qualified trainers.

  • In order to provide positive role models to the children, interaction with celebrities is facilitated. These include sportspeople, film stars, writers, music maestros and scientists.

  • Arushi organizes regular excursions and trips, visits to places of interest like historical sites, museums and national parks to provide exposure to children.

  • Ability expositions and other creative activities are organized to encourage persons with disabilities to discover their hidden talents.

  • To facilitate inclusive education for children with various disabilities, a team of special educators takes care of their special needs and provides extra assistance.

  • In order to equip teachers with knowledge, understanding, positive attitudes geared towards the specific educational needs of the disabled children studying in regular schools in an inclusive environment, Arushi holds capacity building programs.
