Advocacy, Lobbying and Influencing Government Policy
Disadvantaged groups become susceptible to blatant and some subtle forms of oppression, exploitation, abuse and marginalization. Arushi strives to generate more opportunities for these people to help develop capabilities in them to access their choices and make informed decision.
Wherever possible, Arushi leaves no stone unturned to assertively lobby for the cause of the disabled. In order to provide accessible environment to the disabled, Arushi works closely with governments, banks, police department and other agencies. Wherever the task of development is taken up, Arushi makes sure that disability also forms a part of the agenda.
Arushi lobbies for the physical access for disabled persons in public places like cinema halls, schools banks and museums.Arushi plans to form pressure groups to effect policy changes in order to make education accessible to the disabled and the disadvantaged sections.
A Workshop on 'Media and Disability' was jointly organized by Arushi, Samatvam of Delhi and United Nations' Volunteers (UNV) on June 26, 2002. In order to bridge the information gap between media and NGOs working in the disability sector, Arushi will soon set up a disability media information and communication cell to provide continuous information inputs to the media persons on a sustained basis. The information cell will work in close coordination with Samatvam and will be supported by the Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya.
