Meet the Kids
The lotus flower known for its delicate beauty possesses an amazing ability to flourish in a variety of environments ranging from clear ponds to muddy marshes. Kamal (lotus in Hindi) shows the same promise.
'I just love going to school', gushes Kamal. An unusual statement coming from an eleven-year old? Well, be prepared for more as you read about him. Studying in class IV at a private school in Bhopal, Kamal Bhamore wants to be a scientist like his idol President Abdul Kalam. He dreams of a major invention to help the Defence sector. His other role models include Shaktimaan star Mukesh Khanna and cricketers Mohammd Kaif and Irfaan Pathan.
Kamal joined Arushi in the year 1998. Kamal loves to read and play chess in his spare time, things he hadn't heard of before coming to Arushi. He spends his after-school hours at Arushi where he is helped with his homework and studies. He gets computer training and is proficient in MS Word, editing and calculation. He can surf the Internet also. His favorite website? www.bbc.com! Kamal also attends spoken English and Yoga classes at Arushi.
Trips from Arushi have taken Kamal to beaches of Goa and Chennai, Essel World and Film City in Mumbai, President House, Appu Ghar, Qutab Minar in Delhi, the Stupas in Sanchi, and helped him explore places around Bhopal like Van Vihar, Boat Club, Rajbhavan and the Bhojpur Temple. His favorite city though is the Goan capital Panji.
Simple at heart, when asked about his favorite food, he mentions home-cooked dal and rice but on a little more prodding reveals a weakness for jackfruit curry and gulab jamuns. He enjoys good camaraderie with his brother and sister as also with friends Rajender of Arushi and Anshul at school.
Kamal's father is a watchman and mother, a domestic help.
Kamal was born blind.
